On March 23rd 2013 I had the honor of helping to document an event organized by Idle No More Washington, Protect the Sacred Washington and the Backbone Campaign at Golden Gardens park in Seattle.
Speakers talked about protecting nature, about what they considered to be sacred, and about protecting native peoples and their way of life.
After the speakers and a round dance, the crowd marched to the beach and performed a water blessing ceremony. One line spoken after water was emptied into the Puget Sound was “water we love you, water we thank you, water we respect you”.
