There were several protests in Seattle in response to the inauguration of Donald Trump. Among them was a relatively small protest in UW against Milo Yiannopoulos, with about 100 initially protesting the 200 or so that were in line to see the writer.
Originally planned was a talk by the “Dangerous Faggot” Yiannopoulos in Kane Hall next to Red Square. Few if any folks actually saw him, with most behind a police line and black masked protesters that yelled “shut it down” and that he and the attendees were fascists.
There were a few scuffles and several thrown objects that appeared to be thrown at the direction of would-be attendees, with the police occasionally pushing the protesters with bikes. Eventually another group of protesters that were from a march joined. Then a loud pop rang out. The police pushed into the middle of the crowd, which by this time filled half of Red Square. From the blood on the scene and reports from the Seattle Fire Department it appears to have been a gunshot to someone at the protest.
The victim was taken to Harborview and is reported to be in critical condition.
